Dennis McNish (commonly referred to as Denny by people who know him) started out as a small town kid living on a grain farm between Pierson and Lyleton, MB. When he was 10 years old his family (Mom, Dad and 1 older brother) gave up farming and moved to Brandon, MB and he has called it home ever since. Growing up in Brandon, Dennis’ main interests were having fun and playing hockey. He graduated from Crocus Plains High School in 1999.
As mentioned above, Dennis played hockey as a kid, he played AAA U18 (Midget) in Brandon and Junior in Neepawa. Throughout his adult life he has been very active in the game, volunteering as a coach and also scouting. Many years were spent coaching AAA U15(bantam) in Brandon, and six more coaching the AAA U18(midget) Southwest Cougars out of Souris. Dennis is very proud of so many of his former players who have gone on to great careers in the WHL, and in a couple cases the NHL. Dennis was awarded the Manitoba AAA U18 coach of the year award in 2019, and he is currently the GM of the U18 Cougars. On the scouting side, Dennis has scouted for the Portage Terriers for over 10 years, and spent 7 years scouting in the WHL, first for the Portland Winterhawks, then for the Brandon Wheat Kings.
Dennis has been married to his wife Deidre since December of 2015. They own a home together in the cities southwest corner and have two young girls, Stella and Macy. Like most, his family is what is most important to him. They enjoy spending time at the lake with the grandparents and being involved in activities around town.
Working in the residential construction industry for 17 years as an Electrician is how Denny earned a living up to 2021. Earning his Journeyman License in 2010, Dennis worked for a local Electrical Contractor before starting his own company, DM Electric. After successfully running that business for several years, Dennis was approached by a much larger contractor to bring his operation and employees into there fold. The decision was made to do that, and that relationship continued right up to 2021 when the switch was made to Centum Mortgage Choice.
While growing tired of the same line of work, Dennis also started to develop a passion for finance. A DIY investor, Dennis can sit and read personal finance articles, investment advise, and mortgager news all night. In 2019 he decided to educate himself in preparation for a career change. Dennis completed the Canadian Securities Course, which would be described as the baseline education requirement for the Financial Services and Securities industry in Canada, as well as completing the Canadian Mortgage Salesperson Certification, and he is currently working towards a certificate in Financial Services advice.
Being a Mortgage Originator drew Dennis’ attention for several reason, most notable, as mentioned earlier, he’s passionate about personal finance, and choosing the right Mortgage is for most people the biggest and most important financial decision there is. Secondly, nobody likes a pushy salesman, pushing products you either don’t need or can’t afford. People need a mortgage, and someone to get you the best one possible is a valuable service. In the mortgage business the compensation comes from the lender, not the client, and the ability to truly work for your client with no conflict of interest is rare in todays world. It is a great opportunity to be aggressive in building your business while being mutually beneficial for everyone involved.
